If you are able to get a copy of this anthology, be sure to read the 2021 WV Fiction Competition First Place story "Mr. Kindness" by D.W. Gregory. If you are acquainted with WV writers, look for wonderful poetry by Marc Harshman, a beautifully written story by M. Lynne Squires "What he didn't Hear," two poignant poems by award-winning Anna Smucker, a creative non-fiction piece "Feisty Women" by Carter Taylor Seaton, and many, many others.
Marie Manilla is the featured writer in this Vol. XIV of the annual anthology. Manilla describes her own writing: "My work explores the human condition, in all our frailties and glories." One of Manilla's best known works is The Patron Saint of Ugly.

This little poem was written several years ago.
It seemed to fit the mood of the Anthology of Appalachian Writers.
I am happily surprised to see it published.
It is the first poem I have ever submitted for publishing.
